An advent poem

Sar Shalom (Prince of Peace)

Do you know the disappointment
of unmet expectations?
Have you waited till hope
has made you heart-sick?
Does it feel impossible
to rid life of resentment?
God can do far more
than you can ask for.

Sar Shalom, you came
Into a waiting world
To a people expecting a king,
A warrior, a leader,
A saviour, liberator
Sar Shalom, you are all these things.

Do you long for the contentment
when you’re trusting and you’re resting?
Have you come to the end
of all your striving?
When you seek the Prince of Peace
He will conquer all your fears.
He will soothe all your worries
with his love.

Sar Shalom, come
Into my broken life
With the blessing only you can bring.
My comforter, my healer,
My captain, my completer.
Sar Shalom, you are all these things.

Do you wait for the fulfilment
of exceeded expectations?
Are you holding on to
promises in faith?
Do you pray for Christ to come
to our frustrated, groaning world?
The Lord that you are seeking
He will come.

Sar Shalom, come
Into our broken world
Come that great day, when all will see you reigning.
Our restorer, our ruler,
King of kings and Lord of lords.
Sar Shalom, you are all these things.
